Ahmednagar-Mirajgaon-Karmala-Tembhurni (NH-516A) Package II Highway
Instead of cement stabilisation, mechanical stabilisation using Tensar multiaxial geogrid was proposed at the interface of granular sub-base and wet mix macadam layer. Incorporation of Tensar’s multiaxial geogrid at the interface, led to stabilisation of the unbound layer and enabled an optimal cost effective pavement section with the same performance as a conventional pavement. In addition to the design proposal, Tensar also provided technical support to obtain design approval and site training to contractor’s team.
The client struggled to maintain the cement quality needed to stabilise the sub-base as required in the original proposal. This created uncertainty in the cement stabilisation quality and caused delay in project delivery. Under the time and budget pressure, the client approached Tensar for an alternative solution.
Tensar multiaxial geogrid stabilized the interface between granular sub-base and wet mix macadam layer mechanically, replacing cement stabilization. This solution stabilized the unbound layer and matched conventional pavement performance at lower cost. Tensar also helped secure design approval and trained the contractor's team.
