Event/Webinar Overview

Platform stability is crucial when it comes to supporting heavy loading from piling rigs, mobile cranes or other heavy machinery, especially over weak and variable ground conditions. The short construction time for the temporary work often poses a challenge to engineers in balancing the savings between cost, time and carbon when proposing a solution.

In this session, Dr Dong will share his experience on platform design using the T-Value method, a design approach to the calculation of bearing capacity incorporating the benefits of mechanical stabilisation. He will also demonstrate a typical working platform design example by using the working platform module on Tensar+. Tensar+ is a free cloud-based design tool that offers efficient and cost-effective solutions. The session will conclude with an actual case study showcasing the geogrid stabilised working platform for wind turbine construction in Vietnam.

All registrants are encouraged to register for Tensar+ prior to the event. Can't make the date? Register anyway! All who register will receive a link to the recording.

About the Speaker

Dr Dong Ngo Huy  |  Design Engineer - Tensar Vietnam

Dr Dong Ngo Huy completed his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an Advanced Training Program from the University of Transport and Communication in Hanoi, Vietnam. Following this, he worked as a Design Engineer in a consultancy firm's technical division, focusing on geotechnical challenges such as ground improvement and slope stability analysis. In 2020, Dr Dong obtained his PhD in geotechnical engineering from Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand. His research interests encompass ground improvement techniques, geosynthetics testing,  soil testing (both in laboratories and on-site), and Finite Element Analysis. Currently, Dr Dong works at Tensar International Limited as a design engineer, overseeing design works for Vietnam Office. He specialises in soil stabilisation, reinforced soil structures, and advanced geotechnical engineering.
